The West Bengal Government has invited investors to set up power looms and textile units in the upcoming Integrated Textile Park at Ashok nagar and Banipur of Habra in North 24-Parganas.
The move will help the state become self-sufficient in the production of woven fabrics.
The state already boasts of a leading knitted apparel hub Kolkata, and is now focusing on woven segment also.
As per reports, the state has an annual requirement of around 7,200 million square metres of woven fabric. However, currently only around its 5 per cent (300 million square metres) is produced in the state.
Notably, the state has a scope of immediately installing about 1.50 lakh power looms.
As per a report of The Millennium Post, West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation Limited’s (WBSIDCL) Integrated Textile Park at Ashoknagar and Banipur is spread over about 47.52 acres of land. Under the state Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Textiles Department (MSME and T), WBSIDCL is developing the basic infrastructure of the parks situated on either side of Jessore Road.
The parks are also situated close to Ashoknagar Road Railway Station, and are around 30 km from the airport.
Chandranath Sinha, MSME Minister of the state had a meeting with the concerned authorities in connection with the development of the Integrated Textile Park.
The Minister said, “We have sought expression of interest from the investors who are interested in setting up power looms and other textiles-related units. Our aim is to make the state self-sufficient in the production of woven clothes and the industrial parks would play a crucial role in this connection.”
