The country’s clothing manufacturers have requested the government to enable them to import raw materials, including cotton, yarn, and textiles, under the bonded storage facility across all land ports between Bangladesh and India in order to maintain uninterrupted production in the industry.
In a letter to Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Saturday, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association also requested permission from the government for partial shipping of raw materials imported through Benapole and other land ports.
RMG exporters can import raw materials through the Benapole land port under the bonded warehouse facility but they are not allowed partial shipment. The BGMEA letter signed by Faruque Hassan demanded that the government should allow them to import raw material through Bhomra and Sonamasjid land ports. It said that export growth was being hindered.
