Karnataka, one of the leading Indian states with focus on textile and apparel industry, has shown keen interest in setting up mega textile parks in the state.
Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Karnataka Principal Secretary in the department of handloom and textiles, said that the State Government has sent a proposal to set up for more than one textile park in the state, but the Centre has not yet responded.
Under the proposed Mega Investment Textiles Parks (MITRA) scheme, seven parks will be set up in the country over the next three years.
UP Singh, Secretary, Textiles, Government of India, who was in Bengaluru to interact with the representatives of textile industry to apprise them about the various incentives offered by the Centre to those planning to expand their business said that Karnataka is keen on setting up a mega textile park in the state. He said no decision has been taken so far on any of the proposals because the project is still in its infancy.
The Secretary also attended the Convocation Ceremony 2021 of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bengaluru.
He said, “Karnataka is one of the leading apparel manufacturing hubs of India. Since the Government of India is offering incentives for five years to the textile industry as well, we wanted the industrialists here to avail the benefits.”
The Secretary said that the parks will come up only in those states which will fulfill certain parameters such as 1,000 acres, investor-friendly policies, good connectivity through road, rail and port, regular water and power supply.
