Maglificio Ripa, an Italian maker of circular knitted textiles, claims it is going greener with the introduction of a new range of biodegradable materials. The Lombardy-based firm has collaborated with Israeli fibre manufacturer Nilit on a project that it claims would place it at the forefront of combating the accumulation of microplastics in the seas and landfills.
Maglificio Ripa has introduced a collection of bio-responsible textiles based from the Sensil BioCare fibre. The new collection is distinguished by integrated technology that, according to an independent laboratory, can break down fibres considerably faster than ordinary nylon. According to the company’s CEO, Luca Bianco, consumption of sustainable apparel would increase by more than 30% by 2030.
Maglificio Ripa’s Sensil BioCare textiles are recognised for their extreme softness and excellent aesthetics, as well as their capacity to ensure the sustainability of their style of apparel at the same time. According to Luca Bianco of Nilit, Sensil Biocare fibres degrade quicker than conventional nylon during the initial tests.
The unique technology does not degrade or wear out, and it does not interact with other performance additives, finishes, or colours.
