Universal MEP Projects & Engineering Services Limited (UMPESL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Voltas Limited, a TATA Enterprise, has announced a strategic partnership with Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited (KPCL) to enhance the textile industry’s efficiency in India. This collaboration aims to deliver cutting-edge, energy-efficient centrifugal and screw compressors tailored specifically for the textile sector.

Background of the Partnership

Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited, recognised as a flagship company of the Kirloskar Group, is a prominent manufacturer of compressors and compression systems in India. KPCL serves a diverse range of sectors including oil, gas, steel, cement, food and beverage, railways, defence, and marine industries. The company is known for its innovative technology and advanced product offerings, which position it as a leader in the manufacturing landscape.

Objectives and Benefits

The partnership between UMPESL and KPCL is designed to provide world-class compressors that will significantly benefit the Indian textile industry. Mr. K. Srinivasan, Managing Director of KPCL, emphasised that as the textile sector expands to meet global demands, access to high-quality compressors will enhance competitiveness. He stated:

“As the textile industry in India scales up to address the emerging global opportunities, having world-class compressors like the Tezcatlipoca Centris and the KES range of Screws will add to its competitiveness and allow for rapid scale-up. With the strong support from UMPESL, the customers can now expect world-class service as well.”

Mr. Pradeep Bakshi, Managing Director of UMPESL, echoed these sentiments by highlighting the significance of this collaboration in strengthening their market position. He remarked:

“This association adds to our established portfolio of UMPESL’s products and thus expands the company’s position as a market leader providing customers with a one-stop shop solution and state-of-the-art products to meet their complete manufacturing needs. This co-operation is expected to strengthen both UMPESL & KPCL’s reach in the Textile Industry with the technological know-how acquired in other industries.”

He further elaborated on the operational challenges faced by manufacturers:

“The application of Compressed Air in the Textile Industry has become an integral requirement in all the modern machinery working with a lot of automation. While the air is free, Centrifugal air is not free. The cost of offering reliable compressed air with required pressure consistently and with the least lifecycle cost of ownership and maintaining the compressor is a big concern for many customers. Modern Centrifugal and Screw compressors from KPCL can offer the lowest SPC (Shaft Power Consumption) at the lowest maintenance and spare cost.”

Importance of Compressed Air in Textile Manufacturing

Compressed air plays a crucial role in modern textile manufacturing processes, particularly with increasing automation. As Mr Bakshi pointed out, while the air itself is free, the cost associated with reliable compressed air delivery—including maintaining required pressure and minimising lifecycle costs—poses significant challenges for many manufacturers. The advanced centrifugal and screw compressors from KPCL are designed to offer low shaft power consumption (SPC) while minimising maintenance costs.

Future Prospects

Mr Pradip Roy, Head of the Textile Machinery Division at UMPESL, highlighted that the Indian textile industry stands on the brink of a technological revolution driven by sustainability and innovation. He stated:

“The textile industry in India is at the cusp of a revolution driven by technology and sustainability. We believe that the Indian textile industry is a key contributor to the global supply chain. This association would help us to offer the best-in-class Air Compression Solutions to the textile industry and we look forward to working with KPCL.”

Conclusion

The collaboration between UMPESL and Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited marks a significant step towards modernising India’s textile industry through innovative engineering solutions. As both companies work together to deliver state-of-the-art compressors, they aim not only to improve efficiency but also to contribute positively to India’s position in the global supply chain for textiles. This partnership is poised to redefine how manufacturers approach air compression needs in an increasingly automated world.
