As part of its global denim initiative, which was introduced in March 2023, Italian denim manufacturer Dondup has partnered with Swiss material verification company Bluesign. In an effort to promote ethical and sustainable denim production methods, a broad network of producers and brands, including Madewell, Everlane, Reformation, and ISKO, are involved in the campaign.
The project seeks to ensure high levels of safety and environmental responsibility in the denim industry by implementing sustainable procedures and clean chemistry. Companies that take part in the program get access to Bluesign’s solutions system, which is centered on sustainable chemistry and aims to improve worker safety and resource efficiency.

Dondup and Bluesign will collaborate closely to carry out on-site evaluations and validate chemical inventory, guaranteeing that every stage of manufacturing complies with strict safety and sustainability regulations. This partnership supports Dondup’s objective of lessening its environmental impact. The collaboration, according to Dondup CEO Matteo Anchisi, will enable the company to maintain strict safety regulations while reducing its negative environmental effects. Dondup is committed to creating high-quality, fashionable, eco-friendly, and socially conscious denim.

The company’s achievements are highlighted in Bluesign’s 2023 impact report, which shows that between 2019 and 2023, they saved 6.3 billion liters of water and reduced nearly 3 billion pounds of carbon emissions. In addition, it uses over 20,000 permitted compounds to monitor in order to meet its sustainability goals. Anchisi pointed out that Dondup’s recent collaboration with Bluesign bolsters its long-standing environmental initiatives, such as its collaboration with Candiani. He believes that by working together, the fashion sector will be encouraged to prioritize responsibility and openness, much as Dondup has done.
