The Baksa district of Assam is home to the largest Eri silk spinning facility in the Northeast. On Thursday, Pramod Boro, CEM of the BTC, officially opened the facility, which was established by the NEHHDC.
The 12,916 square foot mill was constructed at an expenditure of around Rs 15 crore at the Integrated Textile Park in Kharuajan.
The mill can produce 450 kg per day with 960 ring frame spindles. Boro commended the mill during the event for its ability to boost the rural economy, especially by giving women who cultivate Eri silk a stable source of income. He also emphasized how crucial industrial expansion is to lowering youth migration in pursuit of work.
Boro recognized the difficulties associated with raising cocoons and the lack of equipment, but he underlined how important current technology is to resolve these problems. It is anticipated that the project will directly employ 375 people and indirectly assist the livelihoods of about 50,000 households.
