The Air Emissions Guidelines V1.0, which set performance standards for air emissions in the textile, garment, leather, and footwear production industries, were released by the ZDHC Foundation, a pioneer in sustainable chemical management. ZDHC’s continuous effort to improve environmental responsibility throughout the worldwide supply chain is a major milestone.

The goal of the new guidelines is to raise industry awareness while assisting suppliers in setting baselines and gaining a thorough understanding of air emission regulations. The original version of the rules is not testing-focused; rather, it attempts to empower facilities to submit their data in accordance with these requirements.

The ZDHC Air Emissions Guidelines V1.0, which represent the organization’s dedication to ongoing progress in sustainable practices, expand on the framework established by the 2019 ZDHC Air Emissions Position Paper. Input chemistry management is emphasized in the guidelines as it is essential to attaining cleaner output and lowering air pollution.

In order to minimize duplication, ZDHC has synchronized its standards for greenhouse gases with current industry initiatives, concentrating this first edition on input formulations that contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Although these recommendations do not specifically address greenhouse gases, ZDHC does expect establishments to disclose their data and adhere to current industry standards.

ZDHC is pushing suppliers to learn about the standards, track their air pollution, and enter their data on the ZDHC platform. Brands are also encouraged to spread these principles throughout their supply chains. The goal of this proactive strategy is to encourage the industry to take more environmental responsibility.
