In the week ending May 23, 2023, the US saw a total of 222,600 RB of Upland cotton exported, a 10% increase from the previous week and a 25% rise from the prior 4-week average. The US Department of Agriculture’s export sales report highlighted significant sales to China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Turkiye, and South Korea, while seeing reductions in exports to Guatemala and Hong Kong. The increase in exports to China, including some switches from other countries, played a significant role in driving up the total export sales for Upland cotton during this period.

For the 2024-25 season, Upland cotton’s net export sales were 78,100 RB, with top destinations being Turkiye, El Salvador, Thailand, Guatemala, and India. Overall exports of 172,200 RB were down compared to previous weeks, primarily going to China, Turkiye, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Indonesia. This marked a decrease of 16% from the previous week and 21% from the prior 4-week average.

Net export sales of Pima cotton totaled 5,400 RB for the week ending May 23, with significant increases for India, China, Peru, Bangladesh, and Vietnam. Japan had total net sales of 200 RB for 2024-25. Exports of Pima cotton reached 6,300 RB, with China, Vietnam, Peru, Pakistan, and India being the primary destinations. These numbers were down from the previous week and the prior 4-week average.
