The Tamil Nadu State government, has already received 44 applications for the setup of mini textile parks in the state. They are further expecting over 10 more applications for such projects that will be submitted within a week, by 10th August.
The Textile Commisioner of TN, M. Vallalar, said that there is no limit to the number of parks in the state when it comes to the small and medium scale units. He further said that they are emphasising the setup of technical textiles units including medical, industrial and defence textile units in the state. He added that the majority of the applications for the mini textile park setup had come in from the Karur district.
Official sources said that the government had modified the scheme for the mini textile park. The government intended on giving subsidy for industrial sheds which would aid the small and medium scale industries.
The District Collectors are also encouraging the existing textile industry to take advantage of this scheme. They have given a helpline number: 0421-2220095 to contact for further details.
The Chairman of Southern India Mills Association, Ravi Sam, welcomed this scheme and further said that this scheme would be beneficial to the weaving and spinning units in the state. The interested units are expected to contact the association for further details.
