Textile exports increased by 9.06 percent in the first three quarters of the current fiscal year compared to the same time last year.
According to the latest data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, textile exports totaled $11,355.478 million in July-March (2020-21) compared to $10,412.504 million in July-March (2019-20), a 9.06 percent increase (PBS).
Knitwear exports rose by 20.92 percent from $2,299.800 million last year to $2,780.884 million this year, indicating a 20.92 percent rise in trade.
Similarly, yarn (other than cotton yarn) exports increased 12.53 percent, from $20.937 million to $23.561 million, while bed wear exports increased 16.50 percent, from $1,761.654 million to $2,052.260 million.
Towel exports increased 16.84 percent, from $592.370 million to $692.111 million; tent, canvas, and tarpaulin exports increased 23.46 percent, from $72.216 million to $89.159 million; readymade garments increased 4.53 percent, from $2,170.340 million to $2,268.568 million; and made-up articles, except towels and bed wear, increased 14.85 percent, from $492.366 million to $565.496 million.
Meanwhile, raw cotton exports fell 96.51 percent, from $17.002 million to $0.593 million; cotton yarn exports fell 12.03 percent, from $819.808 million to $721.212 million; and cotton fabric exports fell 8.28 percent, from $1,547.384 million to $1,419.184 million.

It is worth noting that the country’s merchandise exports increased by 7.12% in the first three quarters of the current fiscal year (2020-21) compared to the same timeframe the previous year.

Imports rose by 13.57 percent during the analysis period, rising from $34.791 billion last year to $39.512 billion in the first three quarters of the current fiscal year.
According to the data, the country’s trade deficit rose by 20.05 percent in the first three quarters of this year compared to the same time last year.
