On Saturday, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin urged Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, to instruct staff to demand Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for the importation of viscose and polyester fibre only after the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has resolved all pending applications filed by the importers seeking BIS certification to comply with QCOs.

According to Mr. Stalin, the QCOs for viscose staple fibre issued by the Ministry of Textiles only gave one month for execution. Later, it was prolonged by an additional two months, taking effect on March 29, 2023. The QCO for polyester stable fibre went into effect on April 3, 2023, in a similar manner. Regarding fully drawn polyester yarn (FDY), partially oriented polyester yarn (POY), industrial polyester yarn (IDY), and 100% From July 3, 2023, polyester spun into grey and white yarn will be subject to the QCOs.
