Demand for high quality leathers are increasingly by leather purchasers and leather goods manufacturers since those leathers have been produced more responsibly. This leathers are better for environment and for the people who craft them. This global trend challenges tanners to improve the sustainability of their leather-making process.
Stahl launched Stahl BeTan to help this do so productively and cost efficiently, its new responsible portfolio, earlier this year. In a white paper, David Sabaté, Beamhouse Global Technical Manager at Stahl, explains how the easy-to-adapt technologies found in Stahl BeTan enable tanners to meet their clients’ responsibility demands. And how the technologies deliver the same or a better-quality product with the efficiency needed to stay ahead of the competition.
The Stahl BeTan portfolio comprises a number of 100% biodegradable, low-impact agents and agents that are free of or low in specific chemical content, such as sulfides, nitrogen, and salt. In this, the portfolio reflects Stahl’s commitment to introducing environmentally friendly chemistry to the production of high-quality leathers. The white paper describes how tanners can use Stahl BeTan to easily reduce common beamhouse challenges like water usage, to lower COD and BOD, and to overcome issues like wrinkles, hair root, stains, smells and VOC.
How new-generation tanning solutions enable tanners to improve their environmental impact has also being explained in the white paper by David Sabaté.. They do this by minimising or eliminating residual chemicals like sodium sulfide, lime, ammonium, salts, nitrogen, and chromium. The latest tanning technologies help to shorten the production process, reduce water consumption, and potentially deliver energy and cost savings.
