In an effort to safeguard the labor and human rights of transport workers throughout its supply chain, British retailer New Look has established a new alliance with the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF). A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two organizations formalizes their cooperation.
In accordance with the terms of the MoU, New Look has agreed to confer with the ITF and carry out human rights due diligence throughout its transportation supply chain. The partnership’s main goals will be to increase the transport supply chains’ resilience, safety, and sustainability while also making sure that the workers who keep them running are protected. “Formalizing our relationship with ITF offers New Look an informed, practical partnership to help us remain vigilant and diligent in our commitment to uphold human rights, be aware of vulnerable workers, and ensure there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in any part of our operations, including transport and logistics,” said Sue Fairley, senior head of ESG, quality, and sourcing at New Look, underscoring the importance of the partnership.
New Look has also promised to support its transport workers’ right of association and participate in collective bargaining with the ITF and applicable trade unions. The retailer has further demonstrated its commitment to moral supply chain management by pledging to uphold all globally recognized human rights standards throughout its transportation and logistics operations.
