The Prime Minister also visited the exhibition showcased on the occasion and interacted with the weavers.

Prime Minister said “India’s vibrant handlooms exemplify the country’s diversity. On National Handloom Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to popularize local products.” Sh. T Rajkumar, Chairman, CITI (Confederation of Indian Textile Industry) greatly appreciates the Prime Minister’s vision and vibrant efforts of the Ministry of Textiles and the entire Central Government team in making this happen as the launched GeM Portal or Government e-Marketplace, will empower even the smallest artisan, craftsman, or weaver to promote and sell their goods directly to the government and benefit about 1.75 lakh organizations related to handloom and handicrafts are linked to the GeM
portal today. The government is working in the right direction and true spirit to provide the biggest e-marketplace to the weavers and artisans as more and more brands overseas are looking for Indian handmade products to sell in their retail chains. Indian Exports will get a facelift as more and more global brands and buyers are looking for Indian handwork to create a fusion in the styles which are attracting customers overseas. Going forward, this is going to be a great milestone in increasing garment exports from India.

This would help create more jobs in rural areas and create an ecosystem for self-employment in the unprivileged sections of society.
