Maharashtra: Bidi units, textile mills open in Solapur but those above 50 not allowed to work

Since the four months of lockdown, far of unemployment is prevailing more than the fear of Covid-19, the threat is more for the people above 50 years of age. Last week city administrative allowed reopening of textile and bidi factories but with the condition that proper check-up of the workers should be done daily and part fro this pregnant ladies and people above 50 years are not allowed to work as the chances of getting affected is more in these people.

According to Solapur Municipal Commissioner P Siva Shankar, maximum deaths have occurred of those aged people who are above 40 years. Since this age group is highly vulnerable, we initially planned to not allow them to go out for work. Later we decided to increase the age bar but asked factory owners to screen and allow healthy people to work.” The rule has effectively rendered many unemployed.
