Import Cost for South African Imitation Jewellery in May 2023

The cost of counterfeit jewellery decreased by -32.8% from the previous month to $4,925 per tonne (CIF, South Africa) in May 2023. The import price had a severe decline throughout the time period under consideration. The increase of 113% m-o-m in January 2023 was the pace of growth that stood out the most. In May 2022, average import prices peaked at $55,351 per tonne for the period under study; however, from June 2022 to May 2023, import prices were slightly lower.

Prices varied significantly depending on the location of origin: India had the highest price ($19,678 per tonne), while China’s price was $3,742 per tonne.

India experienced the most noticeable rate of growth in terms of pricing from May 2022 to May 2023 (-6.4%).
