In a landmark ruling, the commercial court of Jaipur has ordered the closure of 800 textile factories in Sanganer. The decision comes after a company responsible for setting up a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) filed an execution petition, citing the state government’s failure to pay awarded dues under the ‘Polluter Pays’ principle.
The court has directed the state government to clear the outstanding payment within three months, with provisions to recover the amount from factory owners. Failure to comply will result in the attachment of both movable and immovable assets of the factory owners, which will be auctioned to recover the dues.
This ruling is expected to have a significant impact on the local textile industry and raises concerns about environmental compliance and financial responsibility within the sector.
