Imphal, 19 June 2021: Chairman of the Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Corporation (MHHC), S Achouba, has offered yarn at reduced prices to weavers in the Wangoi assembly constituency.
Weavers from Oinam Sawombung Muslim, Wangoi Muslim, Paobitek Muslim, Laiphrakpam, Wangoi Wahengbam Leikai, Wangoi Longjam Leikai, and Irom Meijrao who were forced to cease working owing to a lack of yarn during the COVID-19-induced curfew benefited from the initiative taken by MHHC chairman.
Many workers have been unable to go out owing to the curfew imposed to contain the COVID-19 outbreak, according to Achouba, but MHHC has been making all feasible efforts to deliver yarn to weavers so that they can resume work.
Weavers in the Wangoi area were given yarn at a rate of Rs 360 per kilogramme as part of the corporation’s initiative to distribute yarn at lower prices. Each weaver was given six kilogrammes.
Weavers’ prolonged absence from work has a negative impact on their families’ financial situation, as well as causing additional problems, which is why MHHC decided to take the initiative of providing yarn.
