Tata Group’s Tata Digital plans to introduce a ‘super app’ by December 2020 or early next year.

This will pit the conglomerate against rivals Amazon and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) in the e-commerce battle in India.

The super app will offer a range of products and services including fashion and lifestyle, food and grocery ordering, consumer durables, insurance and financial services, healthcare, and bill payments.

It must be noted here that Tata Group operates Tata CLiQ (fashion shopping app), StarQuik (online grocery store) and Croma (e-platform for electronics).

It was only recently Mukesh Ambani’s RIL raised US $ 20 billion from various foreign investors including Google and Facebook with an aim to expand its digital services arm Jio’s base.

Explaining the vision behind the super app, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, said that the company “touches several hundred millions of consumers in India, if you take consumers who are walking in everyday into a Tata facility.”

Financial Times quoted him as further adding, “How do we give a simple online experience connecting all of this, and at the same time, a beautiful omnichannel experience? That is the vision!”
