New Delhi wants to promote the ‘India’ brand and domestic textiles, which have played a crucial role in building the brand, according to Piyush Goyal, who yesterday took charge of the ministry of textiles from minister of women and child development Smriti Irani. Goyal is minister of commerce and industry, consumer affairs and food and public distribution.
Minister of state for textiles Darshana Vikram Jardosh also took charge.
Goyal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants the textile sector to be stronger and support the economy in a better manner, according to an official release
As the prime minister envisions a synergy between commerce and industry and textiles sectors, that is perhaps the reason why he has been offered the charge of this ministry, he added.
