Programme on “Enhancing Sustainability and circularity in Textiles being implemented by the Textiles Committee in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

Venue: Meeting Suite 204 A&B, Jio World Convention Centre, BKC, Mumbai Date: 30th January, 2023

The Textiles Committee (TC), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on “Enhancing Sustainability & Circularity in Textiles”. The main objective is to minimise the negative environmental impacts of the Indian textile industry by promoting sustainable practices where these exist and mainstreaming knowledge of circular production best practices in the textile and apparel sector.

The TC & UNEP have evolved campaign strategy to social media & media for promoting sustainability in the Textile Value Chain (TVC) with focus in sustainable fashion. The detailed road map along with the campaign material will be unveiled during the Programme.

At the same time, the consumers will also be sensitised about the need and urgency to adopt sustainable fashion by adopting 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse & Recycle) for a clean & green world.

As a major player in the Textiles Apparel (T&A) sector in the international market, the initiative will help the key stakeholders to adopt sustainability in production and marketing of products in addition to preparing the to adopt sustainable means in the process of monitoring.

The Chief Guest of the Programme Smt. Darshana V. Jardosh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Textiles & Railways, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The campaign collaterals viz. Reels, Info Graphics and Slogans/Taglines for the benefit of the consumers & stakeholders of Textile Trade & Industry. Shri Chandrakant Patil, Minister of Higher and Technical Education Minister &Textiles will hand over the Certificates of Excellence to the Winners of the Competition organised for preparation of best Reels, Info Graphics & Slogans/Taglines on Sustainability and Circularity in Textiles.

Among the other dignitaries, Shri Atul Bagai, Head, UNEP, Smt. Roop Rashi, Textile Commissioner and Smt. Prajakta L. Verma, Joint Secretary (Fibre), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Prof. Aniruddha B. Pandit, Vice- Chancellor, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, Shri S.P. Verma, Secretary, Textiles Committee, Shri Kirti Chadha, Head Quality, Technology & Innovation, Tata Trent Ltd. will address the gathering. The programme will also be live streamed for the benefit of the stakeholders.
