There are no points for guessing what Deepika Padukone’s go-to ensemble is for festive occasions. Ask her fans, and they will tell you that the actor has a sari for every occasion, from promotional events to social outings. In fact, she even wore saris to two of her own wedding ceremonies. While the actor has quite a collection of dialled-up cocktail drapes, it’s Padukone’s classic six-yard staples that have had her steady patronage.

From Kanjeevaram silks to multicoloured Benarasi weaves, the actor’s wardrobe can serve as a masterclass in wearing heritage silk saris. So, true to form, the 33-year-old opted for a rani pink drape by Raw Mango back in December 2018 when attending television personality Kapil Sharma’s wedding reception. Do you remember this look?

Kapil Sharma’s star-studded wedding reception saw guests like Vicky KaushalKriti Sanon, Rekha and many other stars in attendance. For the celebration, which took place mere days after Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh’s multi-event wedding in Lake Como, Italy, the newly-wed picked a sari by designer Sanjay Garg. Called ‘Sanuya’, her Varanasi silk brocade sari came in a striking fuchsia shade and featured a statement-making gold border on its hem and pallu. She paired her drape with a modest full-sleeved blouse. Singh complemented Padukone in a navy bandhgala.

To go all-in on the traditional look, Deepika Padukone opted for timeless gold jewellery pieces. Her choices: a statement choker with matching earrings and kadas. She layered her pieces with her solitaire diamond mangalsutra and wedding ring. Padukone also went the classic route with her makeup with a matte base, winged eyeliner and kohl-rimmed eyes, a look similar to the one she wore to her own wedding ceremony. Paired with Padukone’s dramatic eye makeup was a sleek bun adorned with fresh blooms.

As far as wedding trousseaus go, a time-honoured silk sari like Padukone’s is the cornerstone of any bride-to-be’s wardrobe. The heirloom-worthy number will last you for years to come, and across festivities. In fact, you can even say yes to a rani pink silk drape for one of your own ceremonies like an intimate engagement or a close-knit reception.
