A high-level delegation from the Indian Technical Textile Industry (ITTA) met with the Union Minister of Textiles, Shri. Giriraj Singh, on August 22, 2024, to discuss the current state and future needs of the sector. The delegation, led by ITTA Chairman Mr. Avinash Misar, highlighted key challenges facing the industry and proposed solutions.
One of the primary concerns raised by the delegation was the availability of essential raw materials, such as speciality fibres, yarns, and chemicals. Many of these materials are not produced domestically, hindering the production of high-end technical textiles. The industry urged the government to reconsider the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) imposed on polyester staples and IDY yarns, particularly for specialised variants that are not available in India.
The ITTA also emphasised the need for increased government procurement of technical textiles to boost domestic consumption. By mandating the use of technical textile products in specific applications, the government can drive market growth and promote Indian brands internationally.
The Minister of Textiles, Shri. Giriraj Singh expressed his support for the industry’s growth and highlighted the government’s initiatives through the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes. He emphasised the importance of integrating emerging technologies with cost-effective strategies to ensure the industry’s competitiveness.
The meeting between the ITTA delegation and the Minister of Textiles was a positive step towards addressing the challenges faced by the Indian technical textile industry. The industry remains optimistic about its future growth with the government’s continued support and the implementation of proposed measures.
