Surat: The Federation of Gujarat Weaver’s Welfare Association (FOGWWA) has asked that all yarns used in weaving textiles be classified as essential commodities under the Essential Commodities Act.
FOGWWA has complained to Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani that yarn producers are speculating on yarn pricing.
Speculation is causing yarn prices to rise rapidly, placing weavers in a bind and influencing fabric costs. According to FOGWWA office-bearers, if yarn is included in the legislation, manufacturers will be unable to join a syndicate and raise prices.
