A Webinar on the topic “Smart Garments for Smarter Living” was organized by the Smart Wearable Systems (SWS) Incubator, NIFT Foundation for Design Innovation (NFDI). SWS Incubator, NFDI under the aegis of National Institute of Fashion Technology and invited speaker Ilaria Varoli, Executive Vice President, SayantaniNandy, Chief Operating Officer, Soliyarn and Moderator Rashmi Thakur, Chief Operating Officer, Smart Wearable Systems Incubator, NFDI & Assistant Professor, NIFT Mumbai, on 11th April 2022  at 6 P.M.

In the beginning of the webinar Moderator Rashmi Thakur talked about NFDI, as NFDI holds four of its incubators at three of NIFT centre NIFTMumbai, NIFT Delhi and NIFT Chennai in dolman of home and spaces, Fashion and lifestyle accessories and Smart wearable system.

Rashmi Thakur said today for this webinar, today have two experts from the area ofSmart wearable, Ilaria Varoli is Executive Vice President, SayantaniNandy isChief Operating Officer. She said that I want to put statistics here before starting that Global Smart wearable system is having compounded annual growth (CAGR) rate of 19.48% during the period 2021-2026.

Smart clothing is advancing towards increased innovation thus leading to not only new products but also new raw materials. The sector majorly relies on conductive textiles and the ensemble is often called as E-textiles. At SWS Incubator we look forward to being instrumental towards the incubation of business ideas in the field. Two International speakers would share their insights both from the perspective of product and business development.

Ilaria Varoli said my company name is MYANTI want to show how to show Human participation in a digital world. She said according to Todays Healthcare System Healthcare spending in U.S. exceeds$3 trillion, nearly 20% of GDP. Access to a primary physician is below 50% in US states. Nearly 1 billion doctor visits annually in the U.S. alone. 1/3 do not know they have diabetes, 1/5 do not know they have hypertension, & nearly 20% report overall poor health.Healthcare in Development.Economies.Africa hosts 13% of the world’s diseases burden, but just 3% of world’s doctors. Yet mobile penetration exceeds 85% across the continent.

Ilaria Varoli saidTechnology is pervasive, but significant gaps remain to human potential. We have limitations in data about our physical sieves. We lack universal access and participation. Our digital presence is limited to social and content.

  • Skin: Layering system that acts as user primary connector.
  • Passive, ambient, continuous connection.
  • Ubiquitous use of textiles.
  • Create a new standard to connect humans.
  • Working across multiple environments and over time.

The session was then hosted bySayantaniNandysaid my company name is Solariyan : Textile RE- Imagined. She said we started Solariyan recently on 2018.We call our company functional coating company more than anything else but we also develop some prototypes to demonstrate to define functionality. She said as I came from textile background. We feel that years and in 5 years people are demanding what clothes to be. They don’t want to spend too much, in the way they spend today.

She said we are small team as you can see, as its start-up so we have raise our first round , So our  Journey has just started. She said according toOur Technology we develop functional coatings using propertary and chemical vapour deposition. Coating include: Conductive, FC free Waterproofing and pfc free Olophobic. Our Purpose is smart and confortable clothing solution free processing – no water waste.

 We have unique approach:

Our vapour phase chmisty achieves uniform, conformal, and vairtuallly undetectable films that maintain both textile and electronic/waterproofing function- coatings are micron  level thick thus retaining form and feet.

  • Cheaper to produce than existing solutions
  • Faster to produce as it is a step dry process.
  • Sustainable textile processing with no water requirement or waste.

She said I will go deep to the conductive fabric. It is the current most current mature product i.e. Heated gloves. It is currently produced in large scale as they are in need of it.

SayantaniNandy delivering lecture on the topic ‘HeatedGloves with Its competitive advantage and conductive coating in Action”

She said this is our value proposition why it better than wires, why it is better than Carbon nanotubes as which has immerged in the recent years especially outside Asia. It is a piece of cotton fabric that it can be heated up. You will not feel that you are wearing than your regular clothing. It is coated all around so it doesn’t have single wires are running up and down the circuit not at all creating hotspot. It is uniformly heated over the surface. This leads to heat distribution and comfort. It is durable as it created a covalent bond on the surface of the fabric.

Right now our Suite of Heated product is Gloves, Boots, Insoles. We have created for boots and gloves for military purpose. Recently we have started biosensors.

We now come to DWR fabric . You can see some coating we have developed now. We are now trying to create an Oliophobic coating that has not been available today. PFC is going to get banned in 2024.

Pipeline of our company:

We have electro-thermalgarment.Same Conductive coating has so much application than heating and sensors. We can use for infrared clocking same as pretty much reflect body heat inwardly. Biomarkers sore under testing right now.

After that questions and interaction session was held in betweenSayantaniNandy and Rashmi Thakur.  The Webinar was ended by Vote of Thanks given by Rashmi Thakur.45 views participants attended the webinar through You Tube on 11-04-2022
