Bharat Tex: From Farm to Fashion, a Game-Changing Stage

The Indian government, along with export promotion councils, is gearing up to showcase the entire value chain of the textile industry at the biggest-ever textile show in February. The exhibition, named Bharat Tex, aims to position India as a major player in the global supply chain. In a bid to boost its positioning, the show will cover not only the renowned Bharat Mandapam but also the newly built Yashobhoomi in the capital city.

The timing of the exhibition holds great significance as it coincides with the announcement of the general elections. Textiles, being a focus sector, plays a crucial role in India due to the involvement of numerous weavers, artisans, and workers. Spanning over a staggering two lakh square feet, which is equivalent to 45 football fields, the four-day event is expected to attract global CEOs, policymakers, and over 3,500 exhibitors from around the world. Additionally, it will draw 3,000 overseas buyers from more than 40 countries, along with over 40,000 domestic buyers.

To make the event even more impactful, the textiles ministry has reached out to prominent global players such as Chanel, LVMH, Uniqlo, Zara, and Walmart. These players have been invited to join the mega event in order to demonstrate the potential of the Indian textile industry on a global scale. The event will feature nearly 100 leading Indian brands, such as Fabindia, Nalli, Arvind Mills, and Raymond.

The overarching theme of the event, “local for global,” emphasizes the need to create a distinctive brand identity for Indian manufacturers as they aim to expand their foothold internationally. This branding strategy is expected to contribute to improving overall unit value realization in the industry. With the target of pushing textile exports to $100 billion from the current $45 billion, India is determined to claim a larger share of the global market.
