The Erode Corporation recently announced the allocation of shops to 30 additional traders in the newly constructed Abdul Gani Textile Hub, located at Panneerselvam Park. As part of the Smart Cities Mission project, the modernized textile hub was built on the premises of the E.K.M. Abdul Gani Textile Market complex (Gani Market). In response to requests from existing traders, priority was given to them in the allocation process.
After receiving a total of 260 applications for 186 available shops, a committee consisting of 12 members thoroughly reviewed each submission. Unfortunately, 147 applications were rejected due to insufficient documentation and various other reasons. The Corporation has established rental rates of ₹93 per sq. ft for ground-floor shops and ₹83 per sq. ft for first-floor shops. Regrettably, no takers have been found for shops on the second and third floors.
To ensure fair opportunity, traders whose applications were initially rejected were given the chance to reapply with proper documentation. Out of the 52 resubmitted applications, 30 were accepted and 22 were rejected. The decision to allocate shops to the 30 traders was confirmed during an urgent council meeting held on Friday. This new development has provided a welcome boost for many aspiring entrepreneurs and is expected to invigorate business activities in the area.
