The X-Pac VX21 Ocean Edition (OE) is a new waterproof laminate from Dimension-Polyant that is intended for use in packs and backpacks. The face cloth of the new X-Pac VX21 OE laminate is composed of 100% recycled regen Ocean, which is derived from abandoned fishing nets and has GRS certification.
The unique X-PLY fiber from Dimension Polyant, which is composed entirely of recycled PET post-consumer, is used to strengthen this fabric. Moreover, it has a lightweight taffeta backing made of the same recycled material for improved stitch holding. Carbon-neutral manufacturing facilities at Dimension-Polyant create all X-Pac materials, including VX21 OE.
“All materials, recycled or not, must meet these standards because X-Pac is known for its strength and durability,” stated Taylor North, Head of Technical Fabrics at Dimension-Polyant US. “Regen Ocean nylon satisfied our needs; we had been waiting for the ideal 100% recycled material that satisfies our sustainability and durability requirements.”
Hyosung TNC created the X-Pac VX21 OE, the first four-layer laminate for packs and backpacks composed of regen Ocean nylon. In comparison to traditional nylon, the production of regen Ocean cuts CO2 emissions by 73%, the usage of fossil resources by 76%, and the consumption of water by 98%, according to an independent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted by Hyosung.
