To promote sustainability and address the challenges faced by the textile industry, textile recycling innovator SaXcell has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Birla Cellulose, a unit of Aditya Birla Group and one of the largest manufacturers of man-made cellulosic fiber globally.

The collaboration aims to expand the production of recycled man-made cellulosic fibers through SaXcell’s textile waste pulping technology and Birla’s advanced wet spinning expertise. This joint effort will create high-quality and sustainable “SaXcell” recycled fibers, which will cater to the growing demand for circular textiles.

Erik van der Weerd, CEO of SaXcell, emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving the vision of a robust circular textile supply chain. He stated, “To effectively address the social and environmental challenges of the textile industry, global collaboration is imperative. SaXcell and Birla, with their combined innovation and production capabilities, have a great opportunity to make a real impact.”

Dr. Aspi Patel, Chief Technology Officer of Aditya Birla Group and Birla Cellulose, highlighted their commitment to supporting innovators and expanding circular fiber offerings in the textile sector. He recognized the collaboration as a means to help SaXcell transition from pilot to commercial demonstration scale, accelerating circularity in the global textile value chain.

With this strategic partnership between SaXcell and Birla Cellulose, the textile industry takes a significant step towards sustainability and a circular economy.
