Tamil Nadu’s lofty $1 trillion economic aspirations will be driven by the manufacturing sector, but guest or migrant workers will be its fuel. Over a ten-year period, the state will require 1. 3 crore workers in the industrial sector alone. According to business leaders in the sector and government representatives, at least 50 lakh of them will be temporary employees.
While residents strive for more skilled occupations, Tamil Nadu’s large businesses and MSMEs are lacking in blue collar labour. In order to make migrant workers more welcome, industry asks the state to take certain actions.
