Performance BioFilaments Inc. is happy to announce the opening of the largest commercial nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) production facility in the world at the Quebec paper mill Resolute’s Forest Products, Kénogami. Customers can now place commercial orders for products used in thin film, industrial fluid, biocomposite plastic, concrete and mortar, nonwoven, and mineral consolidation applications with a daily production capacity of 21 metric tonnes. A capacity of 7,000 metric tonnes per year will be sufficient because the impact of this nano-scale biomaterial is substantial even at low doses.
A natural, renewable, and sustainable biomaterial obtained from sustainably managed, certified forests is nanofibrillated cellulose. To improve performance-driven advanced materials and speciality chemicals, it offers a low carbon additive.Years of work have been invested by the Performance BioFilaments team and its development partners in Gurminder Minhas, managing director of Performance BioFilaments, said that his company wanted to “bring this low-carbon biomaterial to market.” We have worked closely together to integrate nanofibrillated cellulose into a variety of industrial supply chains in order to achieve cost, quality, and significant performance gains. We can easily support large-scale possibilities across a number of key industry areas because commercial volumes are readily available.
