India’s Kasturi Cotton Bharat project, to establish Indian cotton as a global phenomenon, has taken a significant stride forward. The Union Textiles Minister, Piyush Goyal, recently launched the official website for the project, providing a platform for improving the quality and traceability of Indian cotton. This collaborative effort, involving the Ministry of Textiles, the Cotton Corporation of India, trade organizations, and the textile industry, seeks to elevate Indian cotton to a top-tier, internationally trusted product.

The inception of the ‘Kasturi Cotton Bharat’ initiative occurred on World Cotton Day, celebrated on October 7th. The Ministry of Textiles unveiled the project’s brand logo, symbolizing the distinct qualities of Indian cotton. On December 15, 2022, a crucial agreement was inked between the Cotton Corporation of India and TEXPROCIL, representing the Textile Industry, to drive the promotion of Kasturi Cotton Bharat.

This project stands out by incorporating cotton producers from across India who adhere to specific guidelines for cultivating the Kasturi Cotton Bharat brand. To ensure transparency, modern technologies such as QR codes and blockchain will be instrumental in tracking the cotton at every stage of the supply chain.

During the launch event, Union Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized that this venture was not merely introducing a brand but also showcasing India’s rich cotton heritage to the world. By positioning Indian cotton as a responsibly-produced, high-quality choice on the global stage, the project seeks to elevate the profile of Indian cotton and benefit all stakeholders in the industry.

As the Kasturi Cotton Bharat project continues to gain momentum, Indian cotton is poised to achieve greater global recognition, leading to substantial benefits for all involved in the cotton business.
