Friday, 12th August 2022, New Delhi: An analysis of DGCI&S exports data by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) has revealed that from April-July 2022, India’s exports of Textile & Apparel (T&A) have registered a growth of 2.15% to reach US$ 12,892.21 million as compared to US$ 12,621.04 million during April-July 2021.
A quick snapshot of the Export data reveals that
- During July’ 22, Indian Textiles Exports registered a degrowth of 24.15% over the previous year while Apparel Exports registered degrowth of 0.6% during the same time period.
- Cumulative Exports of Textiles and Apparel during July’ 22 have declined by 15.01%
- During Apr -July’ 22, Indian Textiles Exports have registered a degrowth of 10.30% over the previous year while Apparel Exports have registered a growth of 22.46% during the same time period.
- Cumulative Exports of Textiles and Apparel during Apr- July’ 22 have registered a growth of 2.15%
- Share of T&A has declined to 8.38% in July 2022 from 10.08% during July 2021
Shri T. Rajkumar, Chairman CITI stated that in the last few months Indian T&A Industry had been facing unprecedented challenges which are evident in the quick estimates of T&A export data released today.
Shri T. Rajkumar, Chairman CITI while commenting on the production front stated that in April – June 2022, the Index of Industrial Production for Textiles was up (+) 0.8 percent and Wearing Apparel was up by (+) 50.9 percent hinting towards a better production scenario in the near future.
Chairman CITI concluded that there is a matter of concern over the declining share of T&A products in the All commodities basket. However, there has been a sigh of relief on the production front according to the IIP data released today.
