Digital printing was developed to enable the manufacturer or end-customers to streamline the image design and manufacturing process. Needless to say, digital printing has attracted many businesses and manufacturers for they could produce affordable and customized marketing materials for the business and clients. Companies are collaborating, launching a new range of printers, and even expanding their digital printing departments to care for the growing market demand in the post-covid world where productivity and ROI matter more than ever to recover from the loss and boost the economy.

There are many factors contributing to the growth of the global digital printing market, such as a rise in demand for sustainable printing solutions in healthcare, pharmaceutical, label, and packaging industries and demand for cost-effective printing mechanisms.

Talking about the factors driving the growth of the digital printing industry across the world, attention goes to the trends that are present in the market today and are propelling the digital printing use cases. The revenue of the global digital printing sector is estimated to reach $35.71 billion by 2028, manifesting a CAGR of 3.7% from 2021 to 2028, as per the research report published by Allied Market Research.

Trends such as an expansion of digital printing departments, launching new products, and collaborations between known companies are boosting the use of digital printing and increasing the trust around this technology. As the world is walking towards the automation and end-to-end digitization of every possible process, digital printing is going to play an important role.

Collaborations in Digital Printing:

Collaboration is one of the primary trends businesses witnesses when any new technology is launched and its applications turn out to be useful to the businesses. Every business wants to leverage the market trends to boost its productivity, business value, customer relations, and goodwill. A recent update has come from the market where Koenig & Bauer and Marabu have collaboratively launched an innovative digital printing solution for glass.

Koenig & Bauer is the world’s oldest founded producer of printing systems, with the widest range of products. Marabu is a leading multinational manufacturer of liquid coatings and screens, both digital and pad printing.

Digital printing offers sophisticated designs and a high degree of customization at cost-effective rates. However, this process was not feasible for 3D decorations on standard glass products until recently. Rather an expensive made-to-measure mould was created for each item. Now, Koenig & Bauer and Marabu have collaborated to build a pioneering solution to this issue.

The producers of glass products with textured decorations traditionally perform a variety of basic steps before embossing. This process is connected to high energy usage, short production runs and is very costly. Every glass object that needs a textured decorative finish has to be made with its dedicated mould to get the required raised surface that is used for embossed decoration.

Here, the production process is time-taking and needs proper planning.

But embossing is not ideal for highly customised glass products, for which the demand in the market is strong. Industries such as perfume and beverage industries require highly customized glass containers. The digital printing solution developed by Marabu and Koenig & Bauer allows the direct printing of such glass products with excellent results.

Expansion of Digital Printing Department:

2021 will be known for many happenings and occurrences. Some business sectors faced a downward revenue graph, while some expanded their operations and reach. A company from the printing industry has recently released a video announcing the expansion of its digital printing department.

Allied Printing Services of Manchester has published a video stating the extension of its Digital Printing Department. The company deployed its sixth Xeikon 9800 digital web press in 2021.  This web press is above the fleet of 15 digital presses it already runs.

The company has also deployed an extra new Polar cutter and five Horizon folders to optimize post-press activities. In 2020, the company deployed Impremia IS29 inkjet press and two other digital web presses.

The President and CEO of Allied, John Sommers, stated that the company is excited to add new services and presses to the offerings and the focus is on customer satisfaction and the people & process approach. The internal maintenance team of the company has helped in doubling the square footage in Digital. This has optimized the total workflow and output of the company.

The company has also hired new employees and most of them are for the departments such as programming, finishing departments, data processing, and digital printing.
