A firm in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad is using circular technology to convert crop waste into garments.
Shikha Shah, the creator of AltMat, explained to ANI news agency why she opted to produce clothes from agricultural waste.
According to Shah, people consume 11 million tonnes of fibres such as polyester, cotton, and man-made cellulose to make clothing. “Polyester is plastic and a source of microplastic that is detrimental to the environment and health,” she stated.
“It is skin-friendly, has antibacterial properties, and can fight sweat,” she said. The company that started at a pilot scale is now moving towards commercial scale with the set up of a factory.
