Texvalley’s Visionary Event ‘WEAVES’ To Connect International Textile Community

Tamil Nadu at present houses approximately 5.7 lakh power looms and 210 Powerloom Weavers Cooperative Societies covering 46,000 looms supporting nearly 11.0 lakh direct/indirect employment and the sector ranks third in the country after Maharashtra and Gujarat. The annual turnover of this sector pegs to about Rs.35000 crores. With about 20000 manufacturing units run the productions with an average of 20 looms. Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruppur and Coimbatore districts constitute nearly 80% of the power loom population, most of the operators produce fabrics on house cum work-shed facilities basis and nearly 70% of weaving is done on Job Work basis. The sector supports the spinning industry largely and captive to value garment manufacturing in the country.

Texvalley and Weaves:

Texvalley is the hottest trend in Erode, one of the prominent textile production zone of South India. The city located in the western region of Tamil Nadu has many textile and related manufacturers who export the product across India. Texvalley serves as one of the hottest retail hubs for both B2B and B2C segments. The retail mall is a private and government joint initiative. Texvalley is promoted by Erode Textile Mall Ltd., Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India and Tamil Nadu Government. The model was inspired by China’s Yiwu International Trade City, the primary wholesale market complex in Yiwu, Zhejiang.

Texvalley had joined hands with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is jointly organizing ‘WEAVES’, a premier textile fair at Texvalley, Erode from 5th to 8th December 2018.  ‘WEAVES’ will be an event that will showcase the potential of the power loom sector in the State of Tamil Nadu and create a platform to market their products. Leading players from India and abroad will be invited to the event and to address at the conference. ‘WEAVES’ is aimed to bring together, the reputed personalities of the power loom sector on a single platform to interact and deliberate on taking this industry forward.

 

Speaking to Textile Value Chain, D.P.Kumar, Executive Director, Texvalley, terms it a visionary of Texvalley. “This will be an international exhibition. We will have people representing all the segments from cotton to a finished product. The predominant idea behind this is the development of this cluster.” Kumar further added this premier textile fair will facilitate the partnership between Indian and International buyers with manufacturers and traders of the region. “This event is expected to act as a gateway to the textile industry for the wavers and an opportunity to showcase, connect, and collaborate, where innumerable textile talents can showcase their expertise and market their products to customers from all over the globe.”

Some of the key exhibitors of the event are likely to be Greige Fabric Manufacturers, Knit Fabric Producers, Sustainable Fabrics, Yarn-dyed Woven Fabric Manufacturers, Handloom & Khadi Yarn and Fabric Processing Houses, Home Improvement Product Manufacturers, Trims and Accessories Suppliers, Design Houses and Solution Providers, Educational and Research Institutions, Government Organisations

 

Textile Machineries Manufacturers, types of machinery, Home Textiles Madeups (Cotton and Synthetic), compliances, textile software, non-woven and more. On the other side, Garment Importers, Buyers, International Retailers, National Apparel Brand Manufacturers, Domestic Garment Manufacturers, Design Houses, Multi-Brand outlet Retailers, Garment converters, Process Houses, Interior Designers, Architects and Home Decors, Freelance Designers and Members of AEPC, CMAI, CITI are likely to participate in the event.

 

A note from the CII reads, “The annual turnover of this sector pegs to about INR.35 Thousand crores. With about 20 Thousand manufacturing units run the productions with an average of 20 looms. “Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruppur, and Coimbatore districts constitute nearly 80% of the power loom population, most of the operators produce fabrics on house cum work-shed facilities basis and nearly 70% of weaving is done on Job Work basis. The sector supports the spinning industry largely and captive to value garment manufacturing in the country.”, the note further reads.

 

The Weaving sector in the state is needing further support in terms of better market pricing, Government support and access to markets across the globe. With this sector coming under the MSME awareness on the various support from the government and Financial Institutions need to be given to the weaving industry. Thus the conference topics are designed in such a way. Some of the key conference topics are around the need for consolidation of fabric manufacturing, forecast enabled product design and value addition for fabrics and garments, compliance strategy for marketing development and more.  On the exhibition part, the expo is designed in such a way every stall gets maximum attention. In addition to that, the special attraction of the event is the special pavilions for Sri Lanka and Vietnam within the premises.

 

The event is likely to witness a fashion show and ‘Traditional Textile Museum’ and is also expected to have a ‘Coffee Table Book’ released featuring the legends and stalwarts who had contributed to the Textile Industry from this region.
