Solidaridad Asia and the Centre for Responsible Business (CRB) will this week launch the Regenagri Cotton Alliance (rCA) as it looks to ensure the long-term prosperity of more than half a million smallholder farmers.
The alliance – which will be launched at a ceremony tomorrow – will support Indian cotton farmers by helping them protect their soil, improve biodiversity and ultimately improve the sustainability credentials of their agricultural practices in line with the Regenagri certification scheme.
Rijit Sengupta, CRB’s chief executive, told the news agency ANI: “We launch this programme with a focus on the cotton sector, and aim to expand it to other geographies and commodities, subsequently. We hope the private sector will respond positively and join this initiative.”
