Sri Lankan apparel manufacturer, MAS Holdings, is implementing a company-wide sustainability strategy known as the Plan for Change, with the purpose of improving its operations across three areas: product, lives, and planet, with 12 goals to be met by 2025.

The MAS Plan for Change is a pledge to inspire long-term change inside its operations, among its customers, communities, and for the earth as a whole.

MAS, which was recently named one of the region’s most innovative companies for its wearable technology by Clarivate, recently signed up for the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) with commitments to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 25.2 percent by 2025 from a 2019 base year and further commits that 85 percent of its suppliers by spend and 100 percent of joint ventures in Scope 3 investments will have science-based targets by 2025.

According to MAS, The Plan for Change integrates the work of all of its separate sustainability programMEs and formalizes the goals into a single holistic approach that will be implemented across the organization.

While the Plan For Change is a new strategic approach to the company’s product, social, and environmental aims, MAS has always been committed to uplifting people and the world. The company’s commitment to achieving several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals is evidenced by its long-standing membership in the UN Global Compact (since 2003), the signing of the Women’s Empowerment Principles, and the signing of the Women’s Empowerment Principles. According to MAS, tackling many of the world’s and its people’s concerns needs long-term, systemic change, and it is committed to doing so through ambitious, collaborative programs.

Sid Amalean, head of sustainable business, MAS Holdings, said that they’ve seen how extended, unrestrained human activity has severely impacted their industry and their society, whether it be climatic disasters, overconsumption, inequality, wars, or pandemics. That is why they have formed this Plan as the blueprint for bringing about constructive change, and they are inspired by the lofty goals they have set for themselves.

Amalean added that to achieve them, they will need unprecedented levels of creativity, collaboration, and alignment throughout their businesses, partners, and supply chain. They are delighted to take on this task and expect to make a significant difference. They recognize that the path ahead will be difficult, but, like their founders, they are determined to do the right thing.
