Following the pink bollworm attack on the crop in the Malwa district of the state, the Punjab government ordered an investigation into the quality of seed given for cotton planting on Wednesday. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa ordered the investigation after meeting with a Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee team. Various other concerns concerning farmers were discussed at the meeting, which was attended by state Agriculture Minister Randeep Singh Nabha, according to a government statement issued on Wednesday.
The agriculture minister said to save the cotton crop from further damage, the state government would provide free spray. He also said adequate compensation would be given to the farmers for the land to be acquired under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. This was stated after he along with Revenue Minister Runa Chaudhary and Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh met representatives of the Road Kisan Sangharsh Committee.
