APCO, the handloom weavers’ cooperative association, has chosen to convert to the manufacture of organic handlooms clothing in order to meet rising demand in the worldwide market.
The APCO has chosen to teach weavers in the use of organic colours and techniques.
Apco will obtain the new organic colours made from pomegranate, orange, sweet orange fruits, neem, Haritaki (Karakkaya), and sandalwood as the basic material. They have already identified a few master weavers’ specialists in giving such instruction. Apco’s delegation, led by chairman Chillapalli Mohan Rao and managing director Ambedkar, will meet with top executives of handloom exports council in Chennai on July 14.
