HONG KONG – A white paper published by Eurofins Softlines & Leather analyzed the emissions of microfibers from nearly 600 tissue samples and found that cotton fibers are the most frequently emitted in the middle of wash cycles, while textile fiber lengths also play a role.

The Eurofins team subjected fabrics to a regulated cycle of laundering and established that fibers between 0.45 μm and 50 μm lengths were the most prominently found in wastewater.
