The British leather goods brand Mulberry is creating gowns for the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), following strict government COVID-19 regulations.
Mulberry said its craftspeople based in Somerset, South West England, have “turned their hand to creating gowns for the NHS”, with each gown crafted with a fluid-resistant and washable material to ensure they can be used safely multiple times for non-surgical uses. The company said its staff “can’t wear gloves to ensure they are stitching correctly”, so each gown is laundered to strict hygiene standards before use. Mulberry said it aims to produce 8,000 gowns at its factories and that it is also supporting “Scrub Hub Bristol”, a network of volunteers making scrubs to order for NHS staff. “Using our factory machinery, we’re cutting large volumes of fabric to pattern which is then ready to be stitched by these amazing volunteers”, said Mulberry.
