To donate to the country’s National Health Service (NHS) workers, the UK tanner and leather goods manufacturer said it has switched its leather goods production as part of a drive to help bolster supplies.

As part of the same initiative, Pittards said it has been making and donating leather heart keepsakes for distribution to families with loved ones in hospital and as a thank you to care workers. In order to raise funds for its local NHS hospital in Yeovil, England’s South Somerset, the company has also made the hearts available for purchasing by the public.

“We have been humbled by extraordinary thanks we have received for what feels to us like a small thing compared to the incredible work that all frontline workers are doing”, said Reg Hankey, CEO, Pittards. “We hope that the hearts will be used by people to send to family, friends and partners they can’t see right now – it seems a fitting way to raise money for our local NHS.” The tanner said it has also been able to turn its skills to making re-usable face masks for general use, which it is making available at a low cost via its website.
