Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh made a significant visit to Panipat, a prominent textile and handloom hub, on Monday to engage with over 150 local manufacturers and exporters. The meeting, organised by the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC) in collaboration with the Panipat Exporters Association, focused on addressing industry challenges and charting a course for innovation and export growth.

During the interactive session, Minister Singh emphasised the need for innovative product development, suggesting unique blends such as jute-bamboo and recycled cotton-synthetic fibre combinations for carpets and floor coverings. He also urged the industry to embrace green energy solutions to achieve 100% factory energy independence, aligning with global sustainability standards.

To gain firsthand insights into the operational dynamics of the region’s textile industry, the Minister visited leading factories including Mahajan Overseas, Excellent Fabtex, and Shree Jee International. He also underscored the potential for collaboration with Kolkata’s jute industry to leverage jute as a sustainable raw material.

Recognising Panipat’s status as a Town of Export Excellence, Singh highlighted the region’s impressive annual export turnover of Rs 12,000 crore, with products reaching global markets including the USA, Europe, Japan, and Australia. The textile industry in Panipat, which employs nearly 8-10 lakh workers, plays a pivotal role in India’s export-oriented economy.

The Minister reiterated the government’s ambitious vision of achieving a $350 billion textile market with $150 billion in exports by 2030. This visit to Panipat underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the growth and sustainability of India’s textile sector.
