MVIRDC WTC Mumbai honors Bharat Ratna Sir Dr. M. Visvesvaraya

On the occasion of his 164th birthday, the MVIRDC World Trade Center Mumbai celebrates and pays a heartfelt tribute to the distinguished politician and engineer Bharat Ratna Sir Dr. M. Visvesvaraya. Every year, India celebrates September 15th as Engineers’ Day in recognition of Bharat Ratna Sir Dr. M. Visvesvaraya’s groundbreaking work. In addition, he has made a significant contribution to the domains of economic planning, industrialization, education, banking, public administration, and nation-building in addition to engineering.

“This is a special moment for MVIRDC as we celebrate the birth anniversary of our visionary leader whose pioneering work in the fields of engineering and socio-economic development continues to inspire generations,” said Dr. Vijay Kalantri, Chairman, MVIRDC WTC Mumbai, in commemoration of this visionary leader’s life and work. His innovative work in irrigation, drainage, and flood control has withstood the test of time and is still the cornerstone of infrastructure in both urban and rural areas.

“Our understanding of economic policy even in this 21st century is still shaped by Bharat Ratna Sir Dr. M. Visvesvaraya’s contribution to industrialization and economic planning,” Dr. Kalantri continued.

Dr. Kalantri also extended greetings to all the engineers of the country who are the key drivers of infrastructure development, industrialisation and nation building. Dr. Kalantri remarked, “Engineers are the building blocks of economic development and without Engineers, we would not have our world. The role of Engineers is invaluable, and their service cannot be measured with money. Engineers are endowed with valuable talent to make our world a better place. Bharat Ratna Sir Dr. M. Visvesvaraya epitomises the greatness and service that Engineers due to Humanity.”

“As India aims to become a manufacturing hub of the world, the role of engineers will be even more prominent to realise our economic vision. On the National Engineers’ Day, I salute and bow to all Engineers who made our life liveable and workable,” Dr. Kalantri added.

In her remarks, Ms. Rupa Naik, Executive Director, World Trade Center Mumbai pointed out, “Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of our inspirational leader whose vision touched the lives of millions of people. Bharat Ratna Sir. Dr. M. Visvesvaraya laid the foundation of Modern India by executing iconic infrastructure projects, developing industries, banking and education.

He sowed the seeds of industrialization and community development well before the economic planning started in India.”

Ms. Naik further remarked, “MVIRDC WTC Mumbai is the realization of Bharat Ratna Sir Dr. M. Visvesvaraya who envisioned a world class trade promotion centre in the commercial capital of India. On behalf of MVIRDC, I take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to pursue his vision.”
