Pratteln, Switzerland, September 2, 2024 – A new denim finishing process is being developed in collaboration with Kipaş Denim, a Turkish leader in integrated textile production, Jeanologia, a sustainable textile solutions company, and Archroma, a global leader in specialty chemicals toward sustainable solutions, with the aim of improving sustainability and aesthetic appeal.

With the help of their innovative technologies, the three textile pioneers have created Kipaş Denim’s new Contra Denim concept, a breakthrough in denim dyeing and finishing that enables brands to use cleaner, less energy- and water-intensive processes to create long-lasting distressed looks and design effects like intricate patterns, whiskering, and fades.

The foundation of Contra Denim is Archroma’s DENIM HALO, a cutting-edge denim production process that combines dyeing methods with resource-saving pretreatments like DIRSOL® RD to produce denim that is laser-friendly and easy to wash. It delivers a much-reduced environmental effect, reduces yarn shrinkage, and improves the garment’s tensile strength as compared to the industry-standard denim finishing method.

The Contra Denim’s retro aesthetic is produced using Jeanologia’s cutting-edge laser branding technology. The hazardous practices of manually scraping by hand or spraying potassium permanganate on the environment have been totally eradicated thanks to the combination of Archroma and Jeanologia technology.

Umberto De Vita, Market Segment Director – Denim, Archroma Textile Effects, stated: “DENIM HALO, part of Archroma’s SUPER SYSTEMS+ portfolio of end-to-end solutions, is empowering our partners Kipaş Denim and Jeanologia to deliver denim with measurable environmental impact through the EIM software, as well as the colors and effects that consumers crave.” This relationship exemplifies our planet-conscious roadmap in action by fusing innovation and teamwork with an emphasis on customers and the environment.

Mustafa Guleken, Kipaş Denim, said: “As Kipaş Holding, our vision is to lead the change towards circular and renewable industries while being a fair and reliable company. We strive to help lead the way to a more sustainable and circular future through research and development in collaboration with fellow industry leaders, like Archroma and Jeanologia. With Contra Denim, we are making it possible for the world’s denim brands to unleash their design creativity without compromising their environmental ambitions or production efficiency.
