Walter Reiners Foundation Marks 60 Years with Awards for Young Engineers at Techtextil 2026

Five engineering students recognised for research projects and academic theses focused on textile technology and sustainability
During Techtextil in Frankfurt, Peter D. Dornier, chairman of the VDMA’s Walter Reiners Foundation, presented awards to five young engineers for academic work related to textile technology and sustainability.
The awards were presented in the categories of bachelor’s/project theses and diploma/master’s theses. Sustainability awards were given to academic projects focused on resource-efficient products and technologies.
Mattis Körner from TU Dresden received a sustainability award for his internship project analysing the effects of fibre lengths on the properties of fibre composites.
Annegret Storm was awarded a promotion prize for her bachelor’s thesis completed at RWTH Aachen. Her work evaluated microwave heating technology in the false-twist texturing process.
Lukas Robert Balon of RWTH Aachen received a promotion prize in the master’s category for developing a CFD model describing flow conditions during BCF texturing.
Katrin Platte was awarded a promotion prize by the Walter Reiners Foundation for her master’s thesis completed at the DITF in Denkendorf. Her thesis focused on the design of a drafting machine for precursor filament yarns.
Sabina Dann from RWTH Aachen received a sustainability prize for her master’s thesis on the recycling of carbon fibres.
The event also marked the 60th anniversary of the Walter Reiners Foundation. During the programme, chairman Peter D. Dornier reviewed developments within the industry alongside former award winners Prof. Stefan Schlichter, recipient of the 1989 award, and Dr Heiko Schenuit, recipient of the 2013 award.
The foundation stated that the textile industry benefits from the work of qualified young engineers contributing to future industry development.
