Walmart commemorated its more than 20-year journey in India with a dynamic event in New Delhi titled “The India Showcase: Celebrating Partnerships, Progress and Possibilities.” The event brought together Walmart’s global and Indian leadership, government representatives, media, and a wide network of partners to highlight the company’s achievements and long-term commitment to inclusive economic development in the country.

The event featured a curated exhibition showcasing entrepreneurs, MSMEs, and partners engaged in various initiatives under Walmart, Flipkart Group, and PhonePe. These initiatives have significantly contributed to Walmart’s impact in areas such as exports, MSME enablement, digital payments, local innovation, and technology-enabled consumer and supply chain solutions.

Doug McMillon, President and CEO of Walmart Inc., stated:

“India is an important part of Walmart’s story. Over the past two decades, we’ve strengthened and expanded our partnerships here to empower people and help local businesses grow. Our teams are pioneering customer solutions that are transforming retail experiences here and around the world. India also reflects Walmart’s commitment to creating shared value, and we are proud to work with partners to shape a more inclusive and resilient future.”

Kath McLay, President and CEO of Walmart International, emphasized:

“We are building long-term partnerships in one of the most exciting and transformative markets in the world. Flipkart Group and PhonePe are designing and implementing solutions for the unique needs of Indian consumers, across eCommerce, payments, supply chain and more. These solutions drive access and growth across India’s diverse communities, while helping to shape Walmart’s approach to building scalable, locally relevant models in other markets around the world.”

She further added:

“From enabling MSMEs and accelerating exports, to elevating the customer experience, we remain deeply committed to growing with India. In the coming years, we hope to create long-term value for even more customers, partners and communities.”

Over the past two decades, Walmart has established a broad footprint in India spanning digital commerce, sourcing, financial inclusion, technology, and community support. The India Showcase highlighted several impactful initiatives:

  • Flipkart Marketplace serves 1.4 million sellers, including many MSMEs, enabling eCommerce access across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
  • Flipkart Samarth empowers thousands of artisans, women entrepreneurs, and weavers with training and marketplace integration.
  • Flipkart Minutes, launched in August 2024, delivers daily essentials in under 10 minutes.
  • Shopsy enables value-driven commerce for small businesses and underserved consumers.
  • Myntra, a leader in fashion eCommerce, recently expanded internationally with Myntra Global in Singapore.
  • Super.money, Flipkart’s fintech venture, launched in June 2024, provides credit-first UPI, secured card services, and aims to democratize financial access.
  • Cleartrip enhances online travel services through an integrated booking experience.
  • PhonePe, with 600+ million users, supports digital payments and financial services while expanding with offerings like Pincode and the Indus AppStore.
  • Walmart Sourcing has surpassed $30 billion in exports from India and aims to reach $10 billion annually by 2027.
  • Walmart Vriddhi has trained over 70,000 MSMEs and aims to support 100,000 more by 2028.
  • Walmart Global Tech is advancing AI, automation, and marketplace technologies through initiatives like the CoE at IIT Madras.

The event also hosted thought leaders who reinforced Walmart’s alignment with India’s economic and export goals, as well as its contribution to the “Make in India” initiative.
