On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2026, UniFor introduces two new furniture collections—MTM (Made to Measure) and Giuditta—developed in collaboration with Herzog & de Meuron. While distinct in design, both collections share a common philosophy centered on precision, spatial balance, and adaptability.

MTM: A Flexible System Rooted in Geometry

The MTM (Made to Measure) system is based on an open and modular design approach, allowing it to adapt seamlessly to different environments without losing its structural identity. Its design is governed by a consistent 12° geometric principle, visible in the legs and echoed in the beveled tabletop edges, ensuring both stability and visual harmony.

The structure consists of four solid wood beams interconnected in three dimensions, inspired by a modern reinterpretation of the traditional castle joint. These beams incorporate a concealed metal rod tensioning system, enabling larger spans and enhanced strength.

The system is highly scalable, supporting a wide range of configurations—from large communal tables and benches to sofas, coffee tables, and even a table tennis version. Materials include wood combined with travertine or glass inserts, as well as a fully steel variant with a reflective mirror finish. Upholstered elements are finished in cork fabric, offering durability, elasticity, and lightweight performance.

Giuditta: Classic Form with Contemporary Precision

The Giuditta collection, originally designed for Villa Roccabruna—now part of the Mandarin Oriental, Lake Como—reinterprets a traditional seating typology with a modern design approach.

The indoor chair, crafted from walnut, features a solid frame with a curved armrest that seamlessly connects the backrest and side support, ensuring both comfort and structural integrity. The outdoor version maintains the same geometry but uses a polished tubular steel frame for enhanced durability and stackability. The collection also includes a two-seater sofa, enabling more flexible seating arrangements.

“Non Places”: A Conceptual Design Framework

The presentation of both collections is guided by the “Non Places” concept, developed by Studio Klass, which oversees UniFor’s creative direction. This concept avoids defining a specific environment, instead creating an abstract and neutral setting that allows the furniture to exist independently.

The installation features a curved glass cylinder forming a transparent boundary, enclosing a red-toned mineral surface that resembles an abstract landscape. A suspended luminous ellipse enhances the atmospheric experience, emphasizing spatial perception over function.

Within this environment, the furniture pieces are presented as independent elements, focusing on their structural and material qualities rather than suggesting a predefined lifestyle.

Extending Design into Public Space

The concept extends outdoors along Passeggiata Pasternak, where the installation transforms into an open, horizontal field. This space is designed as a flexible and interactive environment, featuring graphic markings inspired by sports fields.

MTM table tennis tables are placed within this area, turning it into a temporary public setting that encourages interaction and engagement. Rather than defining a fixed identity, the space acts as an evolving platform shaped by user participation.

A Unified Approach to Design and Experience

Through this project, UniFor reinforces its integrated approach, combining design, research, and production into a cohesive process. The collections and installation are conceived as interconnected elements, reflecting a consistent design language and conceptual vision.

Spazio UniFor is presented not merely as a showroom, but as an experiential environment where architecture, product design, and spatial storytelling converge.

As noted by Carlo Molteni, Milan Design Week serves as a moment of synthesis and collaboration, where design, manufacturing, and creative direction come together to express a unified vision.
